The Malayalam language historical war film is set in the 16th century and chronicles the story of Kunjali Marakkar IV, a Malayali naval chieftain.

Marakkar: Arabikadalinte Simham, also known as Marakkar: Lion of the Arabian Sea, is an upcoming Indian Malayalam-language epic historical war film, written and directed by Priyadarshan. Set in the 16th century, the film tells the story of Kunjali Marakkar IV, a Malayali naval chieftain. The screenplay was written by Priyadarshan and Ani Sasi. The film was produced by Aashirvad Cinemas with Moonshot Entertainments and Confident Group as co-producers. It stars Mohanlal in the title role, alongside Arjun, Suniel Shetty, Prabhu, Manju Warrier, Keerthy Suresh, Mukesh, Siddique, and Nedumudi Venu in supporting roles.

Marakkar Movie Release date:

The film began principal photography in December 2018 and was concluded in March 2019, with the film shot at Ramoji Film City, Hyderabad. The film was originally scheduled for release on 26 March 2020, along with its dubbed versions in Hindi, Tamil, Kannada, and Telugu languages. The release was postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The film is scheduled for theatrical release on 13 May 2021.

The 60-year-old actor, who plays the titular role in the film, took to Twitter to announce the release date of the movie. "#MarakkarLionoftheArabianSea releasing Worldwide on May 13, 2021," Mohanlal tweeted. Produced by Aashirvad Cinemas, Marakkar: Lion of the Arabian Sea also stars Bollywood actor Suniel Shetty, Arjun, Prabhu, Manju Warrier, Keerthy Suresh, Mukesh, Siddique, and Nedumudi Venu.

this film based on the real life story of India’s first Naval warrior on whose name Indian Navy even has a Base in Mumbai Navy Nagar named INS Kunjali, will written by renowned script writer Shankar Ramakrishnan. Shankar had earlier written directed the sound and light show on the same in Kannur St.Angellos fort last year which had the voice cover of Megastar Mammootty.

This will be Mohanlal's second release of the year, after thriller "Drishyam 2", which premiered on streaming platform Amazon Prime Video on February 19.

"Marakkar: Lion of the Arabian Sea" reunites the actor with Priyadarshan after their 2016 thriller "Oppam".

The duo have worked together in more than 25 films, right from the 64-year-old director's debut "Poochakkoru Mookkuthi" (1984).
