The Board of Control for Cricket in India, during its Special General Meeting, formally decided that the unfinished part of the Indian Premier League 2021 will be held in the United Arab Emirates.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India formally decided during its special general meeting that the unfinished part of Indian Premier League 2021 will be held at United Arab Emirates.

The BCCI took the expected step of holding the rest of the tournament in the UAE in view of the bad weather in India around September-October, if it wants to host the remaining 31 IPL matches.

The board also decided on Saturday (May 29) to take time till the first week of July to International Cricket Council take a decision on hosting the T20 World Cup in India. The ICC has scheduled its meeting for June 1 to decide on the matter, but the world governing body may have to postpone the decision on shifting the tournament out of India from October 18 to November 15 in view of the BCCI's request. The BCCI thinks it will explore all options to host the tournament in India itself.

Meanwhile, BCCI president Sourav Ganguly said during the SGM that the BCCI was "positive" about getting tax exemption for the World Cup from the Indian government.

The move to host the IPL in the UAE was widely expected. As reported earlier, the BCCI has already reached an informal agreement with the Emirates Cricket Board in the UAE.

Meanwhile, the issue of payments to local players to be compensated after several tournaments were not held was not discussed at the SGM. One of the federations even brought this issue for discussion but was rejected by Ganguly and Rajeev Shukla on the grounds that it was not part of the agenda. - Published by The Beyond News (Sports).
